NNA - Social Affairs Minister, Wael Abu Faour, conferred Sunday evening with visiting Arab League Commission over the dossier of Syrians seeking refuge in Lebanon. The delegation is headed by Social Affairs Assistant Secretary General, Faeka Saleh.


In a press conference following the meeting, Abu Faour expressed gratitude for Arab League and Arab brethrens' concern and attention in this regards. He added that the delegation had a closer look at the conditions and sufferings of Syrian and Palestinian refugees currently present in Lebanon.


Abu Faour indicated that in shedding light on the refugees' issue, Lebanon is underlining a great cause; one in which it requires momentous support and assistance. He hoped that in the wake of the delegation's close assessment of this issue, it shall succeed in relaying the situation to Arab League members; especially in the upcoming Arab League Conference in Kuwait, which Lebanon awaits with great hope, Abu Faour noted. He stressed that the Lebanese government has no intention to neither close its borders to refugees nor force those currently seeking refuge on its territories to leave.


Moreover, Abu Faour emphasized that there have been no shortcomings on part of the Lebanese government in its approach to the refugees' dossier. However, he stressed Lebanon's need for significant assistance in this respect, in order to aid refugees in the health, financial and educational fields.


In turn, Saleh thanked Abu Faour and media representatives for the efficient news coverage of the delegation's visit, which has allowed for a closer assessment of refugees' sufferings in Lebanon, she noted. "As Arab brethrens, it is a duty to provide all possible assistance in this respect, especially that the Lebanese State has incurred huge burdens in this dossier," Saleh added. She pointed, herein, to the pressing need for more financial support in the refugees' dossier, disclosing that the delegation shall relay the situation, as seen in reality, in a detailed report to Arab League Secretary General, Nabil Al-Arabi.
