NNA - Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi met on Thursday afternoon at Bkirki with Spanish Ambassador to Lebanon Mila Graus Hernano, who congratulated the Patriarch on his cardinality.
The Spanish Ambassador said on emerging that she broached with Patriarch Rahi an array of matters, notably the new electoral law. She relayed the Patriarch's insistence on seeking an electoral law that secures true representation for all the Lebanese.
Rahi then met with Head of the Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Jorg Montagne, where they tackled the current situation in Lebanon in light of the Syrian crisis and its impact at the various levels, especially with regard to the issue of the displaced Palestinians and Syrians to Lebanon.
Montagne hoped that "Lebanon keeps its doors open to the displaced and meets its responsibility towards them."
Montagne described the present humanitarian situation in this regard as very difficult, stressing the need for concerted efforts by all, out of the principles of human rights.
Rahi also discussed with the Director of UNRWA in Lebanon, Anne Desmor, the situation of the displaced Palestinians from Syria to Lebanon, and an array of humanitarian issues, notably human rights to nature and environment.
Desmor said that talks also dwelt on the situation of UNRWA in Lebanon and its undertaken activities and services provided to displaced Palestinians from Syria.
Among Rahi's itinerant visitors for today has been a diplomatic mission of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, including Assistant Secretary of State Torgheir Larsen and Norwegian Ambassador to Lebanon. The delegation discussed with the Patriarch the situation in Lebanon and the region, especially in Syria.
Larsen said on emerging that they boarded with the Patriarch issues related to the situation of Christinas in Lebanon and Syria, and the impact of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon.
Larsen expressed readiness to exert utmost efforts in addressing the issue of displaced Syrians to Lebanon.
