Gemayel renews cleaving to Orthodox Gathering proposal as second option

NNA - Kataeb Party leader, former President Amine Gemayel, reiterated on Thursday that his party holds onto the Orthodox Gathering proposal as a second option, after a draft-law submitted jointly by Kataeb, Lebanese Forces party, and independent Christian figures.

He also said that those lobbing jabs on the Orthodox Gathering proposal had best come out with another law ensuring a righteous representation of Christians.

Gemayel made these remarks during his meeting today with the Head of the Editors Syndicate, Elias Aoun.

As March 14 components disagree over the electoral law issue, Gemayel confirmed that this camp is still close-knit, noting that communication is still underway between MPs Sami Gemayel and Ahmad Fatfat.

Besides, he accused the government of maneuvering with a view to postponing the elections and prolonging the mandate of the current Parliament.

Therefore, he called upon House Speaker, Nabih Berri, to convene a Parliament session to vote on the Orthodox Gathering proposal.

As renewing that Christians are fully entitled to pick half of the nation's representatives, he rejected claims that the Orthodox Gathering proposal paves the way for a tripartite system instead of Christian-Muslim parity.

He lastly called upon all parties to abide by Baabda Declaration, stressing on the importance to adopt the concept of the civil state and administrative decentralization.
