Harb cancels obligation to register mobiles' electronic identity

NNA - Telecommunication Minister, Boutros Harb, on Monday held at his office a press conference during which he announced canceling the obligation to register the electronic identity of cellular phones, namely the IMEI, as of May 5, 2014.

Harb also announced the expansion of the fiber optic network, in order for the internet to reach around 17 Lebanese far-distanced villages.

Besides, the minister launched a project pertaining to paying telephone and internet bills via the credit card or internet.

On a different note, Harb received at his office MP Elie Marouni and discussed with him the local situation, notably the presidential elections issue, with Marouni stressing the necessity of accomplishing the elections within the constitutional time limit and unifying support for a March 14 candidate in this concern.

Afterwards, Harb received the Swiss ambassador Ruth Flint and discussed with her bilateral ties as well as recent developments.
