March 14 presses ahead with calls to form neutral government

NNA - March 14 forces renewed calls to speed up the formation of a neutral government in lieu of the incumbent Najib Mikati-led one, during their weekly meeting in Ashrafieh Wednesday.

They said the departure of the current government and the formation of a new one would pave the way for providing the sought stability, warding off fears of any political vacuum.

"The alternative government must be, during this very stage, from outside March 14 and 8 camps, and comprising ministers not running for the next legislative elections," the forces said in a statement read by former Deputy Fares Soueid.

They said the new government shall work on moving the country from the current "despair" to a normal phase, and finalize procedures related to conducting the upcoming legislative polls on time.

The forces confirmed that the group's deputies would carry on boycotting the projects related to the government and that they would proceed with peaceful sit-ins in Beirut and Tripoli.

Turning to Syria, March 14 General Secretariat did not fail to up calls upon the Arab and international communities to provide the Syrian opposition with "the means required to put term to the spiraling tragedy," in order that "a democratic Syria" should be born. They saw that a democratic Syria would be advantageous for Lebanon's stability and the just and permanent peace in the region.
