Geagea: Christians commit biggest mistake by staying on sidelines

NNA - Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea considered Saturday that "Christians cannot survive in the Orient until they prove they are an integral part of the East and interact positively or negatively with major events."

Geagea said in an interview with a local magazine, published in the city of Zahle that, "Christians commit the biggest mistake by staying isolated at the margins of major events." The visit of a delegation of March 14 to Gaza was a clear example of such interaction, noting that "this visit is part humanitarian after a week of bombings that killed 130 Palestinians."

He reiterated, on behalf of March 14, the support of the Lebanese opposition of the Syrian revolution without meddling with military affairs, a thing which Hezbollah did not refrain from, as proven by party martyrs who died in Syria fighting for the regime of Bashar Assad.

Geagea spoke of the years he spent behind bars, and accused the Syrian regime of orchestrating all the incidents that occurred in Lebanon after the war, including the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Regarding upcoming legislative elections, Geagea said that coalitions in Zahle "will be in accordance with the cause in which we believe in."

Finally, he noted that he did not intend to become President of the Lebanese Republic.

"But if the choice of parliamentary blocs falls on me, it is normal that I want to become president since that post would allow me to fulfill my project, my goals and my aspirations for Lebanon," he concluded.
