Kataeb ups calls for rescue cabinet

NNA - Kataeb Party on Monday accused the Mikati-led cabinet of larking about whilst awaiting the outcome of regional developments, especially the upshot of the Syrian crisis.

Kataeb's fresh stance came amid its political bureau's regular weekly meeting, which had been chaired by Party leader, Amine Gemayel.

The Party lamented the swelling political deadlock at the local scene, and slammed the cabinet's refusal to admit impotence running the nation's affairs.

"The country has touched the political, security, and economic poverty line," a statement issued in the wake of the meeting read.

"This renders the situation catastrophic if not contained by an agreement over a national rescue cabinet," the statement warned, seeing in PSP leader Walid Jumblatt's initiative "good grounds to start from."

Moreover, Kataeb conferees warned from plunging the electoral law amid ongoing political polarizations, suggesting a just law with proper representation.

In an address to Hezbollah, the Party demanded obstacles be eliminated from the national dialogue table.

"These stances which had been lately released by [Hezbollah] Secretary General and the Iranian Shoura Council Head render Lebanon an open field for settling foreign scores," the statement added.

Kataeb conferees also expressed concerns regarding the chaotic situation along the Lebanese-Syrian borders and suggested the Lebanese Army be deployed in said region to prohibit violations perpetrated by the Syrian regime on Lebanese territories.

In its statement, Kataeb also felicitated the Palestinian authority and people on their attainment of a non-member observer state recognition by the United Nations.
